卫星新闻据Quartz网站报道，古生物学家在加拿大发现新的恐龙物种。这一物种生活在距今8000万年前，与霸王龙拥有紧密联系。

这只被称为“死亡收割者”的生物体长10米，重约2吨，而霸王龙长约12米，重达9吨。专家得出结论认为，这种恐龙有大量牙齿和长而深的口鼻形状—这两个特性都是霸王龙的特征。

新物种的学名为Thanatotheristes Degrootorum，源于两个古希腊神明：古希腊神话中的死神塔纳托斯（Thanatos）和负责收割的神明Therist。

加拿大农民、古生物学爱好者约翰·德·格鲁特2010年在阿尔伯塔省海斯村附近的一次徒步旅行期间发现恐龙头骨石化碎片。这一发现是北美已知最古老的霸王龙之一，是加拿大发现的第5种霸王龙，也是近50年来的第一次发现。
