打水漂在美式英语称之为“stone skipping”，英国俚语为“ducks and drakes”。这个词在汉语和英语中同时都有與金錢相關的引申义，但是并不相同。

在汉语中是投资失败，在英语中是挥霍财产。而世上打水漂最多次的男人来自美国(kurt Steiner)，他在2013年打出了88次弹跳的惊人纪录，被列入吉尼斯世界纪录。

2019年的6月份，一位英国男子(Dougie isaacs)则打破了世界打水漂最远的记录，达121米。当时比赛的湖面还“差点不够用”。
